Congratulations! You have made it through the first and second interviews and have been asked back one final time. If you are to succeed in the final interview, it is important to understand what the employer is trying to achieve. The employer has already confirmed that you have the skills and qualifications for the job. This time around they are looking at how you will fit into the company from a cultural point of view. It is also quite likely that they are comparing you to one other final round candidate. Result – You are close but not 100% there yet. There is still important work to do to make sure you succeed in the final interview.
It is important to stay focussed and not run out of steam. Lots of candidates get quite tired by this stage. They have met with recruiters, manager and other staff already and put all their effort into those interviews. As such, they go into the final interview a bit flat and often that costs them the job. You need to go in firing!!!
Things You Must Do To Succeed In The Final Interview:
1. Sell Yourself Well:
Do not assume that you have already done a great job of selling yourself and therefore you can be modest in the final interview. The final interview is not just a formality. It is often a final comparison of 2 people and you still need to be more impressive than the other candidate.
It is also well documented that people who do a great job of selling themselves in a job interview are not only more memorable but they almost always get the job. Confidence trumps modesty every time!
To succeed in the final interview you need to brag a little about yourself and focus on your skills and attributes. You need to nail what you can bring to the role and how that actually benefits the employer.
Remember to also highlight your sift skills as they will go a long way to establishing cultural fit.
2. Ask Great Questions:
Even though it feels like you have asked every possible question you can already, you still need to ask a few great questions if you are to succeed in the final interview. These are important because they show how much work you have put into researching the role and the company and therefore reflect how much you want the job.
Focus on questions that came up during your online research of the company. Was there anything you could not find the answer too? Long term growth potential? These things are great to bring up during the final interview as they create a positive discussion.

3. Know Your Resume Inside Out:
Even though you have covered off almost every element of you resume in the first 2 interviews, you still need to know it inside out. The employer make go back over some skills or examples for clarification, there maybe someone new in the interview or they may want to compare your examples directly with the other final candidates examples.
No matter what, you must know your resume well and be prepared to answer everything all over again. Think carefully about the last 2 interviews. Was there anything you think they may be nervous about? Take this final opportunity to clarify any details you need.
In addition to the 3 important points above, you need to keep your energy level high, present yourself well and be confident. You should also bring along extra copies of your resume and have a list of referees ready.
As always, follow up with a well written thank you letter and you have done the best you can do to succeed in the final interview.
